At Anna House Dental in Tottenham, North London, we know that early exposure to the dental environment can make a lasting difference. That’s why we welcome parents to bring their little ones along — even as babies — so they can gradually get used to the sights and sounds of the practice.
These early visits, even if informal, help children feel at ease and build positive associations with dental care, laying the foundation for confident, stress-free appointments as they grow.

Ongoing appointments allow the dentist to monitor progress and take swift action if any issues develop. It is common for children to be anxious about visiting the dentist and this fear can stay with them into adult life.
Positive early experiences can go a long way to avoid this. Familiarising young children with the dental practice environment will enable them to feel more comfortable and confident within it at a later stage.
Regular dental check-ups during childhood are essential for spotting early signs of tooth decay, gum issues, or problems with development. Identifying issues early helps prevent them from developing into more serious problems that may require complex treatment later on. Routine visits also help children feel more comfortable in the dental setting and build healthy habits for life.
When appointments are calm, friendly, and stress-free, children are far less likely to develop fear or anxiety around dentists later in life. These early experiences build trust, reduce future worry, and make dental care a natural, routine part of growing up.
Dental check-ups are a great opportunity to teach children how to brush their teeth correctly and take care of their oral health. Learning the right techniques early on helps build strong habits that can last a lifetime. We will show them how to brush their teeth properly and encourage them to form good habits and routine.
Regular dental visits help spot early signs of decay before they become a problem. With routine care and proper hygiene guidance, children are far less likely to develop cavities — meaning fewer fillings and a healthier smile as they grow. Prevention is always better than treatment, especially when it comes to young teeth.

Children should have their first dentist appointment by their first birthday or within 6 months of their first tooth coming in. A child’s first ever dental appointment will last around 30 minutes and will involve a full check-up: teeth, jaws, bite, gums, and general oral health.
Children should have a dental check-up every six months, just like adults. This allows us to monitor their development and catch any issues early.
We carry out a gentle examination of the teeth and gums, offer guidance on brushing and diet, and make sure your child feels comfortable in the dental setting.
Talk positively about the dentist, avoid using words like “pain” or “injection”, and consider reading children’s books about going to the dentist to ease any nerves.
We’re experienced in caring for nervous children and aim to make every visit relaxed and friendly. Early positive experiences go a long way in reducing dental anxiety later in life.
We’ll demonstrate the correct technique during visits and can offer tips, tools, and even fun brushing apps to help your child build good habits at home.
